Hill Miri is one of the main tribes of
Arunachal Pradesh. The economic and social life of this tribe is similar to that of the Nishi, another main tribe of the state.
The people tie their hair in a knot just above the forehead and the women wear crinoline of cane rings. Hill Miri villages are smaller with 8 to 9 houses built on hill slopes. Varying from 60 to 70 ft in length, the houses accommodate up to 40 people. Their head dress is more elaborate.
The tribe keeps closer relation with the Miris of the Plains, another division of Miri tribe residing in the state of Assam. The tribe practices the slash and burn method of farming. They are also noted for their hunting skills.
