Heer Ranjha

Heer Ranjha is an epic love story composed by the reputed 18th century poet Waris Shah. It is written in a poetic form and forms an inseparable part of the folk songs sung in Punjab. The original style of singing this song is still maintained without undergoing any change since 1776, when it was written.

The song of Heer-Ranjha depicts the love between Heer, daughter of a chieftain, and Ranjha, the youngest son of a Zamindar (landlord). It contains their love, an attempt to seperate them by Heer’s parents and finally their untimely death caused by the unfavorable circumstances.
