Gyaraspur is one of the prominent towns in
Vidisha District of
Madhya Pradesh. It is about 64 km north-east of
Bhopal and 51 km north-east of
Sanchi, on the Bhopal-
Jabalpur route.
The word Gyaraspur (meaning eleven) is derived from a big fair that used to be held here in the 11th month or Gyaras.
Places of tourist interest are Gyaraspur Mahadevi Temple, Shri Gyaraspur Teerth, the ruins of a Stupa, some tanks, and the ruins of an eight pillared temple (Athakhambe) and a four-pillared temple (Chaukhambe).
Vidisha Railway Station is about 35 km away (northeast). Nearest airport is the Bhopal Airport. Regular buses connect Gyaraspur with Bhopal, Jabalpur and Vidisha.
