Gurpa Peak

Gurpa is a sacred mountain situated in Gaya District. This magnificent mountain is associated with Maha Kassapa, the successor of Buddha. In earlier days, Gurpa was popularly known as Kukkutapadagiri. The village where this mountain lies is also known as Gurpa.

Legend has it that Maha Kassapa reached the summit of Gurpa for meditation. There is a steep path from the foot of the mountain, that leads to the base of a sheer cliff. This cliff is famous for a huge narrow crack. A little distance from this crack there is another cave. One can reach the summit by continuing the climb from there. Numerous Hindu shrines and a few Buddhist relics are there at the summit. Visitors get a breathtaking view from the top and the spot is ideal for meditation.
