Gundlavaddigeri

Gundlavaddigeri is an ancient village in Koppal District. It was a big city prior to Vijaynagara period. A 12th century stone deed in Halegannada (old Kannada), belonging to the Vijaynagara dynasty has been excavated from here. According to this deed, a lake was built in this village for irrigation. Now there are many dry lakes in this village. This deed 4 ft x 3 ft in dimension, with a 4 line inscription stands testimony to the popularity of Shaivism at that period because it has carved figures of a cow, a calf and a wheel of eight swords. The place also unearthed some weapons used by people in that age.

Gundlavaddigeri is 100 km from Hubli. Hubli Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
