Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha, popularly known as Gundecha Brothers, are well known exponents of
Dhrupad. Born in
Ujjain in
Madhya Pradesh, they took lessons from famed teachers, Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. In addition, the brothers earned post-graduate degrees in music from Madhav Music College, Ujjain. They have provided a fresh insight to Dhrupad by incorporating the verses of renowned poets such as
Tulsidas, Padmakar, and Keshav Das. The brothers have performed at several concerts in both India and abroad. For their contributions, they were awarded Sanskriti Award, the government of Madhya Pradesh award instituted in the name of
Kumar Gandharva and Dagar Gharana Award by Mewar Foundation.
