Gundappa Rangnath Vishwanath was born on 12 February in
Mysore. He had an international cricketing career from 1969 to 1983. He was the second Indian to make 6000 runs in test cricket, and played 91 test matches for India. While the legendary Sunil Gavaskar was the opening batsman for India, Vishwanath was a middle order batsman. Vishwanath excelled on pitches other players found difficult to bat. Vishwanath’s highest test score was 222 against the England team in 1981-82. Vishwanath later became the International Cricket Council (ICC)panel referee.
