Green Belt is a picturesque spot of around 2500 acres, located at Auroville, in the union territory of
Pondicherry. It comprises eastern and western parts of the union territory. This zone is mainly used for agriculture, farming, forest and land regeneration and recreation activities.
The western part is spread over an area of 1200 acres, which includes a number of natural drainage channels and village settlements. The eastern part is about 1344 acres with dense tree plantations. This area is mainly used for the recycling and treatment of waste water.
Of its total area, 643 acres are used for recreational activities.
The nearest airport is the Chennai International Airport. The nearby railway station is at Pondicherry.
