Gopal Bhavan is a majestic palace situated at
Deeg in the
Bharatpur District of
Rajasthan. It is an imposing structure, with beautifully laid gardens at its entrance and the rear, overlooking the Gopal Sagar Lake. The building is sandwiched between Sawan and Bhadon pavilions, named after the monsoon months.
Gopal Bhavan, constructed in 1760, shows a combination of Rajput and
Mughal architectural styles. The spacious banquet hall with proportioned pillars, the dining hall and the royal chess room give an exiting view in their formation and design. The marble swing in front of the palace belonged to Empress
Noor Jahan. One room contains a solid black marble bed from Delhi.
Keshav Bhavan lies in the vicinity of Gopal Bhavan. The palace is open 08:00 to 17:00 hrs daily.
Deeg is well-connected with
Bharatpur,
Agra and
Delhi by road. The nearest
railway station is at Bharatpur.
