Located 23 km from
Mysore, Gommatagiri is well known for the monolithic idol of Bhagvann Sri Gommateshwara which is 16 feet in height. The idol is situated on top of a hill called Shravana Gudda. People from all parts of the country visit this place when the mahamastakabhisheka (anointing of the great head) ceremony is celebrated annually in September-October.
