Ghizar River, a main tributary of the Giglit, originates from the glaciers on the northern slopes of the
Great Himalayan range in north-western
Jammu and Kashmir. It rises as a small snow-melt channel from the north and flows towards the eastern part, finally merging into the Giglit.
On its course many small streams, which rise from the Ghizar valley, join its path. Flowing along the steep gradient in its upper and middle courses, the river becomes wider near the confluence with the Gilgit River. North American rainbow trout, Chinese carp and large numbers of brown trout are the exotic species of fish found in the upper portions of the Ghizar River.
