Gharah, also called Makta, is a musical instrument common in
Punjab and
Haryana. It is a simple earthen pitcher used in folk songs.
The instrument has an open mouth, which is covered with stretched rubber. The user strikes the instrument on its sides with rings worn on the fingers. Using the other hand he plays on the mouth, so as to produce rhythmic beats. Nagara and Dholak are played along with the instrument.
