Gella–Chutt is a sport indigenous to
Tripura. This is an outdoor game played by two groups, the out group and the in group. The number of participants in this game varies from place to place within the state. Usually each group has seven to ten players.
One of the players in the in group is selected as king. The king is positioned 20 to 25 m away from his team members. All the players of the king's group are restrained to a specified area, called ghar. The members in the out group try to halt the king's attempt to reach the destination (ghar), but they are not permitted to touch the king. If any one of the players in the out group succeeds in foiling the attempt of king, then the king is declared dead. Then the group will exchange their roles.
