Gauro is a vow taken on the day of
Agyaras, which comes 2 days prior to the
Diwali festival. On this day, young girls between 8 and 15 years of age observe a fast. This special event is observed in parts of central India.
The main reason for taking this fast is to attain a good husband in their future life. The girls consume food only once in a day. Only wheat or rice is consumed. Salt is not consumed during the course of the fast, which lasts for about 5 days. The fast ends on the day of the full moon.
