Gasherbrum Peaks, a remote group of high peaks in the
Karakoram Range, are situated 58 km north-east of
Baltoro Glacier, the second largest glacier in the
Himalayan Region of
Jammu and Kashmir. These peaks are sharp rock pyramids with rugged ridges and steep, towering walls. Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, Gasherbrum III and Gasherbrum IV come under the group of Gasherbrum Peaks.
Gasherbrum I (also Hidden Peak) is the highest peak in the group and the 11th highest peak in the world. The name Hidden Peak was given by William Martin Conway in 1892 in reference to its extreme remoteness. Other peaks including the Broad Peak (the 12th highest in the world) and the Gasherbrum II (the 13th highest in the world) make the place more enchanting.
