Gangeshwaralayam

Gangeshwaralayam is an old temple situated at Tadikalapudi, about 20 km from Eluru in West Godavari District. Devotees believe that this temple was built by Bhishma, the great grandsire in the Mahabharat who renounced his kingdom for the sake of his father. Main attraction here is Gangeshwara Shivling which is believed to be swayambhu. According to myth, Lord Shiva advised an ardent devotee to construct a temple for him at Tadikalapudi. Shiva warned that he would grow to extraordinary height if the devotee neglected His request. Legend grew that the devotees built the present temple and put a nail on the top of the shivling to prevent further growth. Today, Gangeshwaralayam attracts a large number of devotees. There is another temple dedicated to Lord Ram nearby. Eluru Railway Station is the major railhead nearby and the nearest airport is Vijayawada airport.
