Ganapateeswarar-Uttarapathiyar Temple




Ganapateeswarar-Uttarapathiyar Temple lies in the holy place of Ganapateeswaram, Tiruvarur District. The place is also known by the name Tiruchenkaattankudi. Covering an area of about two acres, the temple is adorned with a five tiered Rajagopuram. The temple contains separate sanctums for Goddess Tirugukuzhal Nayaki and Vinayak. Legend tells us that it is the place where Lord Ganesh prayed to Lord Shiva to relieve him from the curse of having killed Gajamukhasuran.

The Sthala Vriksham of the temple is athi and the theertham is Surya theertham. Saints Sambandar and Appar have glorified this temple by their pathigams. The Amudhu Padayal festival is celebrated in the month of Chithirai (mid April - mid May). Other festivals are Vinayaka Chaturthi, Navaratri, Sivaratri, Skanda Shashti and Kartikai Deepam.
