Gaja or Chapai is a folk dance of
Goa. The dance is performed by the Dhangar community on an open playground. The dancers dance and move around a large drum. They wear long and attractive white costumes. Songs and stanzas are in Ahirani language (local language of Dhangar) are sung. The story related to these songs is that of 'Biruba',
Lord Shiva’s incarnation.
