Gagana

Gagana is an indigenous mouth organ used by the young women in Assam. It is a small instrument made of a finely cut bamboo split. This instrument is held between the teeth and air is blown through it. The tunes are produced by gently striking the Gagana with the right forefinger, which varies the passage of air.

Apart from featuring in the folk music as a musical instrument, Gagana also doubles as an ornament. It is worn by the women dancers on the head.
