Fulaich Festival

The festival of flower watching, Fulaich also known as Ukhyang, is celebrated in commemoration of the dead in the Kinnaur Valley. It is observed in Bhadrada month during monsoon.

The festival begins with animal sacrifices, and the entire village is gathered atop a hill to look for Ladra flower. Then, rice, wine and food are served on a mound of bricks to the departed ones. Later, this food and wine is distributed to the poor.

After this, people assemble at the house of the Dhangaspa family, and each member of the clan is garlanded. A warm welcome is given to those who have gone up the hills in search of the flower. Ritual dances with ancient weapons are performed on this occasion.
