The Gojri and Punchi languages of
Poonch District have rich folklores and folk songs. Women are the central attraction in Punchi folk songs. The songs are related to battles, marriage ceremonies, social rituals, social evils, superstitions and family feuds. Chann, Kainchi Sepaiah and Maiah are some of the popular folk songs of Poonchi and Gojri.
Folk ballads, part of folk songs, speak about the bravery and heroism of the people of Poonch. Jabu, Shamash Khan and Nura are some the famous ballads which still resound in the mountains of Poonch area.
Folk songs of Poonch have been passed from one generation to another without any documentation. But now various scholars are seriously trying to preserve these in literature in original form.
