Ferozpur Jhirka is the headquarters of a taluk bearing the same name, in
Gurgaon District,
Haryana. It is situated on the main road from
Gurgaon to
Alwar, about 82 km south of Gurgaon.
Ferozpur Jhirka was built as a military post for putting down neighbouring turbulent tribes by Firoz Shah Tughluq. The old part of the town is rectangular in shape. The town is bounded by a magnificent wall, which is now in ruins.
This place is known as Jhirka after a Jhir, from which a perennial stream which issues from a number of fissures in the rocks nearby.
