Fahaverigothi refers to a special custom in relation to marriage in the
Minicoy Islands.
In these Islands, when a couple gets married, the bride's mother tells the bridegroom the names of some houses, which will be his fahaverigothi. This means that whenever a death occurs in these houses he has to join in the mourning and funeral procession; he has to visit these houses regularly and give them gifts.
The fahaverigothi custom apparently ensures close social ties.
