Eshwar Naik has done remarkable work for the revival of the nearly extinct
chittara art of the Malnad tribals in
Karnataka. Having received training in this art form from his mother and grandmother who were expert chittara artists, Eshwar and his sister Lakshmi set up an NGO called Chittara to train and propagate this art among the people. Naik has been honored by the government for his work.
