English Bazar is an ancient town located in
Malda District of
West Bengal. This place is an urban agglomeration comprising
Malda town and English Bazar. Situated to the east of the confluence of the
Mahananda and Kalindri rivers, this town became a municipality in 1867.
During the 18th century, English Bazar was the seat of prosperous cotton and silk industries established by the British East India Company. Being the administrative center for a district, this place is still known for these factories.
Raiganj is connected by road with English Bazar. The place is well connected by rail and road from Malda.
