Elephant Parade of Thrissur

A major tourist attraction, the Elephant Parade is the procession of caparisoned elephants through the town of Thrissur towards Cherpu. It is a scaled down version of the Thrissur Pooram, the most colorful temple festival of Kerala. The parade takes place once in a year in the month of January. A total of 101 caparisoned elephants, which belong to various temples in and around the town, take part in this parade. The elephants are finally paraded in the Tekkinkadu Maidan near the famous Vadakkunnathan Shiva Temple. The event is viewed with awe and wonder by thousands of visitors from India and abroad.
