Droog is a place located about 13 km from
Coonoor in the
Nilgiris District. This is the site of a ruined 16th century fort and is known as Pakkasuran Kottai or Shankari Droog. It is believed that the fort, at an altitude of 750 m, was used by
Tipu Sultan in his battles against the British. The place has a number of medicinal springs, the famous being the Maan Sunai (Deer Spring), which is presumably untouched by the rays of the sun.
