Drok-pa is one of the
Ladakh racial groups found between Chalets and the Shayok in
Leh District. They are different from the rest of the Ladakhis in culture and way of life.
Agriculture is the main occupation. These ethnic groups have been preserving their racial purity for many centuries. Drok-pa is a Buddhist word and their culture is believed to have been influenced by the ancient pre-Buddhist animist religion known as Bo-chos.
They do not use any of the products of the cow and features the pure Indo-Aryan characteristics. Bono-na Festival is the major festival celebrated during the harvest season with songs and hymns. Although small in number, Drok-pa is truly a homogenous community providing a great contribution in the fields of social anthropology and ethnology.
