Dorli is a sub group of Gond tribe, mainly found in
Bijaipur of
Madhya Pradesh. A majority of these tribes are also seen in a number of villages in the states of
Andhra Pradesh and
Orissa.
'Dorli' is their native language. This language is significantly influenced by the Telugu tribe.
The main source of income comes from agriculture. Dorlis also engage in forest wealth collection, for additional income. They are experts in handling the bow and arrow.
The community is divided into four regional tribes, which are then into five groups, or gattas. Each gattas consists of many clans, the families claiming a common ancestor. Dorlis live in small, windowless huts made with mud walls and thatched roofs.
They worship a variety of gods and goddesses, along with worshipping spirits. The sun, moon and stars are considered gods. The spirits of departed ancestors are worshipped as household deities.
