Dooars Valley, also known as Duars, is located in the
Jalpaiguri District of
West Bengal. Derived from the word ‘doors’, Dooars forms the gateway to the north-eastern parts of India. It stretches from the river Teesta on the west to the river Sankosh on the east, over an area of 130 km by 40 km.
The valley is famous for the wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, and Terai tea gardens such as Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, Gorumara National Park, Chapramari forests and Buxa National Park. Dooars consists of deciduous forests and grasslands and is home to West Bengal's most varied flora and fauna.
Siliguri is the gateway to Dooars. The place is well connected by long distance bus routes to Siliguri, Kolkata, Jalpaiguri and other areas of the state.
New Jalpaiguri Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Civil Enclave Bagdogra is about 80 km from Dooars.
