Divlyam Naach is a popular dance of
Goa. The word ‘divlyam’ means ‘lamp’, while ‘naach’ means ‘dance’. As the name suggests, this dance is performed using lighted lamps. The dance basically depicts the gods and goddesses in
Hinduism.
Divlayam Naach is usually performed during the Shigmo festival. It is an exclusive male dance. The dancers balance lighted brass lamps on their heads. The movements are slow and involve great balance and precision. It requires great self-discipline to master this dance.
