Dhanwar is a tribal community residing in the states of
Madhya Pradesh,
Chhattisgarh and
Jharkhand. The tribe is also known as Dhanuwar, meaning bow arrows.
The men folk of the tribe are good hunters. They also engage in agriculture and forest wealth collection, for additional income. Nowadays, Dhanwars run cotton industries and the main products are bamboo mats and big baskets.
Dhanwars follow the customs of Hinduism. They speak a distinctive language known as ‘Dhanwar’. The tribe is also reported to speak Marathi and Chhattisfarhi.
