Dhangari Gaja Dance

Dhangari Gaja Dance is performed by Dhangars (shepherds) of Solapur District of Maharashtra. It is performed to appease their god 'Biruba'. Throughout the year, they take their herds to green pastures for grazing and return home once in a year to honour 'Biruba'.

Dhangari Gaja Dance is performed in traditional Marathi dresses - Dhoti, Angarakha and Pheta with colourful handkerchiefs. Dancers are accompanied by a group of drum players.
