Devidhura is an ancient temple town, about 58 km from
Lohaghat near
Champawat, situated at a height of 2,500 m. Tall deodar and oak trees and the verdant landscape make this hill town a charming place. It offers a picturesque view of the higher
Himalayan ranges. The town is known for the ancient temple of Goddess Varahi. The three districts of
Pithoragarh,
Almora, and
Nainital meet here. Ruins of a megalithic culture in this place were found by Henwood, an archeologist, in 1858. The place comes alive during the fair that is organized at the
Barahi temple in connection with the festival Bagwal, on the day of
Raksha Bandhan.
Devidhura is accessible either on foot or by vehicle. Jeeps, taxis and ponies are available for local transport. The nearest rail head is
Tanakpur (110 km).
Tourists can visit the place all round the year.
