Devgarh is a charming village in
Chhindwara District and is situated about 34 km away from
Chhindwara. This place is surrounded by dense reserve forest areas and a valley.
Devgarh was the capital of Gond empire until the 18th century. Devgarh kingdom was considered to be the largest tribal kingdom in central India. Some of the archeological structures like palace, Devgarh Fort and other buildings associated with the Gond dynasty are worth visiting. It is believed that a secret underground passage, near the palace, connecting Devgarh and Nagpur, was used by the kings to escape during times of emergency.
