Delhi Transport Corporation was set up in November 1971 as a successor to the erstwhile Delhi Transport Undertaking, which was taken over by the Govt of India by passing the Delhi Road Transport Laws (Amendment) Act of 1971. The DTC aims at providing an efficient, economical, reliable and properly coordinated system of road transport in the state of
Delhi, ensuring passenger safety and comfort while maintaining high standards in environment conservation and operational efficiency.
The Delhi Transport Corporation runs extensive services connecting every nook and corner of Delhi and also to the neighboring states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Apart from services within India, the DTC also runs a twice-a-week service to the Pakistan city of Lahore. This 'friendship' service between India and Pakistan starts from the Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal near Delhi Gate every Tuesday and Friday at 6:00 hrs IST.
