Darlong is a sub-caste of the Lusai tribal community in
Tripura. Most of the people of this sect live in the
Kailashahar sub-division area in
North Tripura District. Agriculture is their main occupation. Pineapple, orange and cotton are their major crops.
The Darlongs believe in life after death. According to their faith, everyone is destined to go to heaven. They believe that if a pregnant woman dies, it will be difficult for her to travel the long way to heaven. To instil confidence in her, the relatives of the pregnant lady perform a dance called
Cheraw at the time of delivery. Their belief says that even if the lady dies in delivery, she will be guided to heaven by the music produced from bamboo used during the ceremony.
