Dandayudhapani Temple




Dandayudhapani temple is situated at Palani in Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga. This temple is one of the famous Muruga temples in India. The temple is known for its magnificent tower.

The chief deities in Dhandayudhapani temple are Lord Dhandayudhapani, Lord Malaikkolundu amman, Lord Malaikkolundu Shivan, Lord Natarajar and Lord Kulandhai Velayudha swami. The temple was built in the 13th century by the kings belonging to the Chera Dynasty.

Everyday the idol of the main deity is taken around the temple in procession on a Golden chariot. It is believed that devotees completing a full round on the path along the circumference of the temple will be relieved of all suffering. The festival of Brahmotsavam is celebrated here annually in period of March-April. Other festivals celebrated in this temple are Krithika, Kandha sashty, Thirukkrithika, Panguni uthiram and Thaipusam.
