Danda-Sota is an indigenous musical instrument of
Punjab. The word ‘sota’ literally means ‘stick’. This instrument is constructed by attaching bells to a stick. It is decorated with colorful ribbons and tassels.
Danda-Sota is a common feature in the bridegroom’s procession during a marriage. The men leading the procession would perform the ‘
naqal,’ which contains various mimics and imitations. They sing and dance to the rhythm produced by striking this instrument on the ground.
