Danavaipet is at
Rajahmundry in
Andhra Pradesh. There are conflicting stories about how the place acquired that name. One version puts it as being named after a leader of the washerfolk who lived here, as 'Danavai.' He is said to have dug a pond here called 'Danavaigunta.' That name held till the 1950s. Another version traces its origin to 'Dalvai,' one of the army officers.
