Dampa Sanctuary




Dampa Sanctuary is located at the north-western tip of the Mizo Hills, about 10 km from Phaileng. It straddles borders of Mizoram, Tripura and Bangladesh.

Housed in Mamit District of Mizoram, a large part of the sanctuary is covered by bamboo trees. It is inhabited by elephant, tiger, leopard, sambar deer, barking deer, Himalayan bear, wild boar, wild dog, gaur, leopard cat, king cobra, python, hornbill, pheasant and hoolock gibbon.

The best time to visit is November to March. Accommodation is available at government guesthouses.

It is 135 km south-west of Aizawl. Silchar Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
