Dakshineshwar

Dakshineshwar, a pilgrim town close to Kolkata, is located on the banks of the Hooghly River, (a tributary of the Ganges River). The town is famous for its Kali Temple, 12 Lord Shiva Temples and a Radha-Krishna Temple. The place came into prominence because of Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, saint and guru of Swami Vivekananda, who stayed and meditated inside the Dakshineshwar Kali Temple. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is the nearest air terminal and Bolpur is the closest rail head.
