A versatile poet, dramatist, and critic, Dattatreya Ramachandra Bendre (1896-1981) has to his credit over 30 collections of poems, plays, short stories, and translations. Extensive use of folklore can be found in his poems.
'Nada Lila' and 'Aralu Maralu' are his popular works. A recipient of Jnanpith Award and Central Sahitya Akademi Award, Bendre wrote in Marathi too.
