People of Andaman Islands make exotic handicrafts for tourists. The natural resources utilized for making crafts include shells, coral, sea weeds, driftwood, leaves of pandunas and coconut, bamboo and cane. Bamboo and cane are available in plenty in the islands. The main types of shells available in the island for making articles are Turbos, Trancs, and Tortoise. The Andamanese are experts in carpentry and woodwork. Several units are engaged in making furniture and other wooden articles out of ornamental woods such as Paduak, marble wood and Chui. Artisans engaged in cane and bamboo work make items like table lamps, finger bowls and other objects. The artisans also craft hats of palm leaves, bamboo carpets, walking sticks and billiard sticks out of marblewood. Driftwood freely available in the Andamans is converted into exotic objects.
