Covelong, also known as Kovilam, is located 40 km south of
Chennai. A port was built at Covelong during the reign of Saadat Ali Nawab of Carnatic. In 1746, Covelong and the port was taken over by the French troops and the British troops under Clive destroyed the port in 1752. Covelong is renowned for its fishing activities.
Covelong is an important beach resort on the
Coromandel Coast and the beach offers a cozy sunbath. Besides the beauty of nature, Covelong is dotted with forts, churches and mosques.
