Built in the year 1821 by the Britishers, the Commissioner’s Residency is one of the oldest official residential mansions in India. The residence has an underground passage leading out from the parquet flooring of the ball room. It was the residence of William Sleeman who served as the collector of Jabalpur. It also served as a veterinary college between 1948 and 1956 and was restored as the Commissioner’s residence on the formation of the
Madhya Pradesh.
