College of Fisheries, the third fisheries college in India, was founded in 1979 at Panangad near
Kochi, the commercial and industrial capital of
Kerala. Situated in an area of about 30 hectare, the college is under the faculty of fisheries of the
Kerala Agricultural University. It aims at producing the highly required, professionally and technically qualified manpower in fisheries to cater to the needs of fast developing fisheries sector of the state and other parts of the country.
For the smooth and proper conduct of academic and related activities, the faculty is divided into seven departments namely Aquaculture, Fishery Biology, Processing Technology, Fishery Hydrography, Fishing Technology, Fishery Engineering, and Management Studies.
The college offers a four year bachelor’s degree program in fisheries leading to BFSc degree. Besides bachelor degree program, the college offers masters degree (MFSc) programs with specializations in aquaculture, fishery biology, processing technology and fisheries extension.
Apart from studies, students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Seminars, kisan melas, in-service courses and various training programs are regularly organized.
