City Center, popularly known as Sector 17, is a juxtaposition of cuboid building blocks and open spaces situated in
Chandigarh. It is the bustling administrative and commercial hub in the city. All buildings situated here are four-storied. These buildings are designed by the renowned architect Le Corbusier.
The administrative offices of the states of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh including the Estate Office Chandigarh, Udyog Bhawan Punjab, Central Income Tax building, Accountant General Punjab building, Haryana Mini Secretariat and Chandigarh District Courts are located here.
There are a number of well stocked air-conditioned shops featuring a variety of goods. In the evenings, tourists as well as the shoppers assembles sit on the steps of the ‘dove of peace’ spout, where water cascades down from one level to another in geometrically shaped tanks, amid delightful play of colourful lights.
The Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is located at the City Center. Chandigarh Railway Station, served by the Northern Railways, is the nearest railhead (8 km). Chandigarh Airport, situated about 11 km from the City Center connects Chandigarh with Mumbai, Delhi, Leh and Amritsar.
