Church of St Philip and St James, one of the ancient churches in
Goa, is located at
Cortalim in
South Goa District. The first Jesuit Missionary Fr Mascarenhas is said to have visited this place and celebrated an open air mass in 1560. Founded in 1566, this magnificent church is dedicated to St Philip and St James.
Historical records substantiate that the church played a major role in the evangelization of Salcette. This church actively participates in various social and educational activities. Apart from the worship services, Church of St Philip and St James provides counseling services, sports and self-employment schemes and runs a high school named Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School.
