Situated in the hamlet of
Anjuna, the Church of St Michael was built in 1603 by the Franciscan missionaries. The church was rebuilt 1717. The architectural features of the church resemble that of Se Cathedral of
Old Goa. The Church of St Michael is a fine example of colonial architecture of the sixteenth century. It has six chapels, spread in different wards. Among them, the oldest one is Nossa Senhora da Necessidade, dating back to 1697. Others are Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Santa Cruz at Chapora, and S Joao Baptist in Sonarvaddo. The elaborately adorned interior of the church presents a glimpse of Portugal’s glorious era.
